Boyton is a quiet parish set in the heart of the farming community with outstanding views of the surrounding countryside and Dartmoor in the distance. It lies approximately 6 Miles from the town of Launceston, which is itself often referred to as “The Gateway to Cornwall” and straddles the A30, which is one of the main routes into the county. Approximately 14 miles to the north of Boyton is the seaside town of Bude which is well known for its outstanding beaches.
The parish was named after Boia’s Farm and is mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086 as “Boitone”; it has also been referred to as “Boietone” or “Boyyeton” The ancient Cornish name for the parish was “Trevoya”.
